Professor of experimental pulmonary medicine at the Department of Medicine, Solna.Johan Grunewald was born in 1958 in Kristianstad and took his medical degree at Karolinska Institutet in 1986. He received his doctorate there in 1993 on the thesis "Studies on the human T-cell receptor".After a short stay in Kyoto, Japan, he began researching AT and in 1996 became associate professor in immunology at Karolinska Institutet.In the years 1998-2004, Johan Grunewald had a research position at the department of medicine, the unit for pulmonary medicine at the lung clinic, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna, financed by the Heart-Lung Foundation.He has participated in the construction of the Lung Research Laboratory with responsibility for the scientific activity there.Since 2001 he has been deputy head of unit at the unit for pulmonary medicine and since 2003 deputy head at the department of medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna.He sits on the board of the international sarcoid association WASOG, and is on the Editorial board for the journal "Sarcoidosis, vasculitis and diffuse lung diseases".On 1 May 2005, Johan Grunewald was appointed professor of experimental pulmonary medicine at Karolinska Institutet.Asthma, COPD and sarcoidosis are all inflammatory lung diseases.The research focus is directed towards the immunological/inflammatory mechanisms underlying these diseases.The aim is to identify factors of importance for the onset of inflammation.Sarcoidosis has come to serve as a model for the two other diseases;the group's research is here at the international front line.But the studies around sarcoid can also have significance for other organ-specific inflammatory diseases.© Karolinska Institutet 171 77 Stockholm Tel: 08-524 800 00 Fax: 08-31 11 01 Contact KIOrganization number: 202100-2973 VAT number: SE202100297301 About the website Availability report News from the KI KI calendar
